Somehow Ended Up in Honduras

Really the only update we need to share is we're regulars at the local Applebee's. But before that, we could tell you about how we ended up in Honduras.

If you read that and you were initially surprised, have you learned nothing about Chad and me? Here's how we got there: each year, a family medicine residency program in Maine travels to Honduras to offer medical care. Last year, I was training with this residency program and tried to travel with them, but the timing didn't work out. This year, the timing DID work out. With Chad as my dentist bargaining chip, we found ourselves on the team!

We worked for 5 days at clinic, treating nearly 600 patients. It was so hot, our whole team ended up with travelers' diarrhea, and we spent a lot of time connecting to the various communities we were in. We are so excited to be able to travel with this team again, and we're even more excited to start weaving travel into our work. #DocsInAnInternationalBox ??

Because we're expert planners, we obviously arrived home from Honduras at 4 am on a Friday and officially moved out of our apartment by 4 pm on that same Friday. Adventures and misadventures, right? We're just keeping you on your toes.

Saying goodbye to our Portland home was more challenging than either of us had thought. We had built a small, very supportive and interesting community there, and we were leaving it for the unknown of wandering around with #RVLife and fourth year.

We finished our move out by helping the buyers of our mattress haul it down 3 flights of stairs. Then, it was time to say goodbye to our creaky little third floor apartment. And then unloaded all of our crap into a 270 square foot home on wheels.

Here's where we started:

And here is a nearly-finished product:

But here is where we actually finished up our move:

Chad and I don't go to Applebee's. Much like every other college student, we enjoyed our fair share of half-priced apps, but largely stopped going to Applebee's after college. I would rather get indigestion elsewhere, and Chad has a very soft tummy. BUT, as Chad so beautifully stated before we walked into the Applebee's, "We're RV people now." Which means that Applebee's is totally warranted.

Some things we learned those first couple of nights:

  1. Light attracts bugs. And if you leave the door open, the bugs will make their way to the light.

  2. We should have immediately treated for pests, including ants and ticks. Chad is a sweet guy (obviously) whom the bugs LOVE, so treating for pests (and keeping the door closed) would have helped lessen the amount of bug bites on Chad and ants crawling on our floors.

  3. Water pressure gauges work better when the needle of the gauge is not broken.

  4. Applebee's is acceptable any time of the day. Even with indigestion & traveler's diarrhea.
